As we approach the New Year, now is the time that we reflect, learn, and celebrate new beginnings. While "New Year's resolutions" may carry the stigma of lasting only a few weeks or days, they're an important part of progressing in life and making changes - the more realistic and possible, the better. The trick to having greater success in your New Year's resolutions is to make it detailed, plot out the steps as milestones towards your goal, and not overwhelm yourself with too much, too soon. That's why it's important to address it before January 1st, giving yourself time to fully reflect on what you feel needs some change in your life. It may even help to discuss with a friend or relative, gaining their insight to help fine-tune your vision for the coming year.
As the most important thing is our health, that's usually first on the list. Dietary changes, exercise regimens, or even taking relaxation and recuperation more seriously to mitigate stress are all important things to consider. Whatever your focus is, make a point to set aside a specific time each day or week to do a specific thing. Write it down, hang it on the fridge, and make sure to set reminders. Another thing to consider is our living space. Home maintenance has a tendency of falling by the wayside as we deal with day-to-day stressors. Take a stroll around the house and make a list of what might need fixed, updated, or maintained. Are the air filters up to date? Any drafts in the house? Small, simple things can keep your home running smoothly, improving your living environment, and preventing major catastrophe before it starts. Other things, like our relationships or hobbies, may also benefit from some reflection. The things that bring you joy and solace are crucial parts of life. Making amends, enriching existing relationships, or starting new ones are all important things to consider. Sometimes a new hobby and new friendships go hand-in-hand, whether it be a local community program like crafting or yoga classes, or a personal interest you pursue on your own. Leaving some room in the new year for exploration is an excellent way to skirt the stagnation we may feel in our daily routines. Remember, when reflecting and planning out your resolutions:
